Saving, Use, Editing and Deleting Rows or Modules

You can save individual rows and modules as either standard or global.

When a standard saved row or module is inserted into a layout, it becomes part of the page’s layout. Changes made to the row or module won’t affect other instances of that saved row or module. This makes it a great option to create templates that can be reused and tweaked on every page.

When a global row or module is inserted into a layout, the settings for the row or module will be linked with every other instance. If you edit a global saved row or module, the change will appear everywhere. If you want to use the exact same module or row on many pages and keep them in sync, global saved rows and modules are the best option.

Save a row or module

  1. Open the row or module for editing by clicking the wrench icon.
  2. Click Save as.
  3. Enter a name for your saved module, decide if it will be standard (No) or Global (Yes) and click Save.

Your row/module is added to either the  Saved Rows or Saved Modules section of the Add Content panel.

Work with a standard saved row or module

Insert a standard saved row or module

Drag and drop saved standard rows or modules into your layout in the normal fashion. These rows and modules in your layout are identical to built-in ones. You can move, duplicate or delete them.  Any changes you make to the layout do not affect the saved row in the Add Content panel.

Edit or delete a standard saved row or module

If you make changes to a standard saved row, it will not affect any rows and modules you previously inserted into your template.

To edit a standard saved row or module:

  1. Click the wrench icon next to that row or module in the Add Content panel, as shown in the following screenshot.

The saved row or module opens opens in a new tab.

2. When you finish editing, click  Done and select from the usual choices to publish, save as draft, or discard your changes.

To delete a saved row or module:

  • Click the x icon next to the saved row or module in the Add Content panel.

Work with a global saved row or module

Insert a global saved row or module

Drag and drop saved global rows or modules into your layout. Global saved rows and modules in your layout have an orange overlay with the Global  tag instead of the standard blue overlay, as shown in the following screenshot.

You can only move modules in or out of a global row by editing the global row. Remember that once you save a global row with a change in the content modules, the change will be reflected everywhere that global row is used.

Edit a global row or module

  1. Open a global row or module for editing either from the layout or from the Add Content panel. The template editor opens for edits. (If you open the row or module from the Add Content panel, the template editor opens in a new tab.)
  2. When you finish, click Done and select from the usual choices to publish, save as draft, or discard your changes.

Delete a global row or module

Although global rows and modules are synched no matter where they are edited, they are deleted independently.

If you delete a global row or module from a layout, it is deleted from that layout position only.

To delete a global row or module in your layout:

  • Click the x icon of the module or row in the layout.

If you delete a saved global row or module centrally from the Add Content panel, all instances of that row or module in the layout will remain but will become unlinked and will function independently.

To delete the saved global row or module and unlink all instances:

  • Click the x icon next to the row or module in the Add Content panel.

Saved rows and modules and the templates admin panel

Any rows or modules that you save, whether standard or global, will appear in the Templates admin panel. See the Related Articles for how to enable the Templates admin panel and how to access it.

If you reuse your saved rows and modules within a single site, the Templates admin panel doesn't add particular value for maintaining saved rows and columns. Where it becomes really useful is when you plan to export saved rows and modules, perhaps along with custom layout templates. Then you can manage all of them in a single location. The Templates admin panel also has the ability to create and assign categories, which is used for Agency version white labeling.

You can edit or delete your saved rows and modules in the Templates admin panel, as an alternative to the Add Content panel in Page Builder. Keep in mind that any changes made in the Templates admin panel to global rows or modules work the same as they do from within Page Builder.

Unlink a global row or module in your layout

If you have a global row or module in your layout with an orange overlay, you can unlink it from the saved global row or module to make it independent.

To unlink a row or module in your layout:

  1. Duplicate the global row or module in your layout.
The new instance is a standard row or module.
  2. Delete the global instance of the row or module from your layout.

Convert a standard saved row or module to global or vice versa

There isn't a one-click way to convert saved rows or modules back and forth from local to global, but it's not hard to do.

To convert a standard saved row to global:

  1. Drag the standard row or module from the Add Content panel to your layout and open it for editing, or open an existing instance in your layout.
  2. Click Save as.
  3. Assign a name for the row or module and make it global.
  4. Delete the previous standard row or module from the Add Content panel.
The new global saved row or module will be linked to the layout element that you created it from (unless you delete it).

To convert a global saved row or module to standard:

Note: This will unlink any instances of the global element from each other and from the new standard element.

  1. Drag the global row or module from the Add Content panel to your layout , or use an existing instance in your layout.
  2. Click the Duplicate icon for that row or module in your layout.
A identical instance is created that is not linked to the global saved row or module.
  3. Open the new unlinked instance for editing.
  4. Assign a name for the row or module and select No for Global.
  5. Delete the global instance in your layout and the global saved item from the Add Content panel.
